• Clearing Houz Update BBS details

    Hey,

i used the Clearing Houz web-interface update section to change my bbs/mailer data for fsxnet, but the ITN information seems to be missing in the updated nodelist.
i have entered Telnet and Port 3023 under bbs details in the web-interface. but tha's not reflected in the nodelist. It seems just to be missing (or asuming a standard port like 23?).

Let me know if everything is as expected or if that's a bug in how the clearing houz is generating the Nodelist.

I don't think it's a bug. If you do have an ITN mailer (like FD or BinkleyTerm running EMSI over telnet) let Deon know so he can update the nodelist.

Ah, ok. By looking into the nodelist i was asuming the ITN entry was BBS Telnet Port related.

so, if a Nodelist entry ends in IBN,ITN:2323 for example,
you would have an (IBN flag) Binkp mailer answering on standard port 24554, plus another (ITN:2323 flag) mailer or the same mailer answering also to Telnet Port 2323?

Yes, that right. You may see IFT for ftp capable mailers and there are others as well.

The nodelist should only have your mailer details, not your BBS details. Assume those details are currect?

Do you have both an EMSI mailer and a BINKP mailer?

i have a binkp mailer the one included in synchronet (Binkit) answering to 24554 standard port. there is no other additional mailer here. i also added my data line number in the Clearing Houz web-interface, since i have an analog modem connected. not sure if that needs extra flags. here is an example connect string when connecting to that modem (CONNECT 19200/ARQ/V32/LAPM/V42BIS). it is a 57600 USRobotics modem, but due to voip limitations max speed should be at around 30000.
the modem connection will first show a screen that goes to the BBS (on port 3023) after button F (for Funtopia) is pressed or if for 10 seconds no button has been pressed, it will route the call to port 24554, to the mailer. The analog modem connection to the mailer should work in theory but is yet untested within a real mailer-call scenario.

I dont recall if I have included the phone number in the nodelist segment updates each week (and I'm not near my system to check) - is it included?

I do know that I havent enabled any way of including modem flags (since most folks dont use modems anymore, I didnt bother with that part of the nodelist segment routines in clrghouz).

the modem connection will first show a screen that goes to the BBS (on port 3023) after button F (for Funtopia) is pressed or if for 10 seconds no button has been pressed, it will route the call to port 24554, to the mailer. Im not sure that this would work(?) - I'm not aware of any mailer that speaks binkp down an (unreliable) serial connection. (I use "unreliable" as line noise was always a problem with modems - and could be interpretted by 1 side as gibberish line data - but the modem transfer protocols had CRC's that detected that and triggered resends).

Thinking about it, some binkp implementations can include CRC checks (MBSE comes to mind) - I havent implemented that either in binkp (was planning on doing it, as there are some mailers that do CRC processing - I just havent figured it out, nor had time to figure it out).

That said, clrghouz does support EMSI/Zmodem - so if your modem answered to a zmodem mailer, then you could get mail that way (but that is also problematic, zmodem doesnt work well when 1 direction of comms is at a different speed to the other - which is often the problem with zmodem implmentations over TCP).

yes, it did include the phone number automaticaly.

ok, as i understand you, a modem phone number within a nodelist makes sense only if you use some old mailers like frontdoor, mcmail etc pp?
so, since there is a binkp style mailer over here, i will remove the phone number via clearing houz web-interface again.

i thought using the sexpots driver would make connections possible to the bbs and the mailer, but i guess binkp is not made for that.

Right, I dont think BINKP can - it was designed mostly for TCP transport, not serial.

That said, it reminds me that there was some discussion about having BBS information in the nodelist (in this net anyway).

Normally a nodelist is for machines to read (ie: mailers), so there hasnt been anyway to decern people info (BBS address for people) and machine info (ie: mailer address for mailers).

While "ITN" and "IFC" is normally for mailer over TCP there are a very few folks actually doing that these days.

I kinda like the idea of having BBS lists in a list to transfer (which is why I have the BBS list and BBS info in clrghouz), but no standard way of sharing that so that its of use to others.

While synchronet has the bbslist using a DATA echo, I could look at pulling that out and populating clrghouz as well as sharing it with other BBS's - is there a BBS mode/method for other BBSes (I guess mystic being the most common)? It might be nice that that gets auto updated with all BBSes during mail/file transfers?

yep, the build in bbs list of synchronet is kind of nice to have. i can't talk for mystic sysops, but i could imagine clearing houz to send out an additional file in a certain format on a weekly basis, that a (yet to be made) fsxnet bbs-list modul could pick up from the filebase and present in a customizable, sortable and searchable way to the bbs user.
