I would too, he was my Nana's favorite singer. I remember she told me
once when Willie was a young man and just starting out they saw him in
a roadhouse in Texas. Some of the audience was clapping along, he
stopped mid song said "Don't do that." and then continued the song when
they stopped. LOL She's been gone 30 years, but I remember that story.

I can't remember the last "big" band I saw live. I've seen quite a few
local bands and "almost famous" ones in the last few years, and they have

Thanks for the welcome Paul, I started BBSing at 300 baud and was really stylin' at 1200 baud back in the day! I had Off The Hook running in the early '80s as a teen which I wrote in BASIC on a Heathkit computer. Fun times for sure and I thought I'd resurrect the old board now that I'm getting old. :o) I'm sure not any good at ANSI art (never was) but I'm getting everything set
up without too much problem. And, yes, I am having fun.

That brings back a few memories for me also :)

I started at 1200 baud also and 2400 was amazing when I got on to those speeds, but once we hit 14.4 and the others it was far nicer. I enjoyed the different sounds of the modem handshakes as the speeds changed.

BASIC for me was on a ZX81 and then a BBC Micro model B

ANSI ART I suck at but really appreciate the work folks that play in this space can do... which reminds me I need to hatch a bunch of art packs out to FSX_ARTS soon... I'm way behind.

"Off The Hook"... that has got to be one of the best names for a BBS I have ever heard. Nice one!

And a Heathkit too!! Wow. I remember my friend's dad had a Heathkit and I remember it had a huge floppy, something like 8 inches. That was the very first computer I played a computer game on I think. We played Colossal Cave Adventure on it and I remembered the phrase "XYZZY" for the rest of my life after that game.

Part of the character of BBSing back then was not knowing where you
    connected.

You'd set up a handful of your favorite BBSes to gang-dial, and it'd try
them all in a queue until one of them answered. I'd be in the other room

Interestingly, of all the boards I called back in the 90s, none of them were on Fidonet. In fact, none really carried FTN! I remember reading .nfo files talking about cybercrime but never actually saw a board carrying it myself.

Me, either. From 1987 (when I first started BBSing) until c1993 or later, if a board in the area I lived in was on a network and I was a caller, they were almost always on the GT Power Network. That was not an FTN. IIRC, one or two may have been on RIME or RelayNet or whatever it was called back then. Ironically, there were Opus boards and, IIRC, FIDO boards around the area but they didn't carry any network message areas.

By 1993, my own board was carrying GT Power Network and Usenet. About that time, I added a QWK network called Intelec. The first FTN I added was not long after that and, IIRC, it was Speakeasy.

I didn't really get all that involved on Fidonet until I started carrying it around 2000.

Interestingly, of all the boards I called back in the 90s, none
of them were on Fidonet. In fact, none really carried FTN! I remember

Me, either. From 1987 (when I first started BBSing) until c1993 or later, if a board in the area I lived in was on a network and I was a caller, they were almost always on the GT Power Network. That was not an FTN.

I didn't really get all that involved on Fidonet until I started carrying it around 2000.

Interesting.. I remember multiple (tempted to say many) BBSes in my area that carried FidoNet. I started running my own BBS in 1994, and I felt very late to the party when I eventually added FidoNet to my BBS in 1998.

In the late 80's I was running a Mustang Wildcat system on DOS with 4 phone lines.
I wanted to carry Fidonet but it would have involved doing a near-zone phone call which
would have cost me some big bucks. I couldn't justify the expense.

I found an old nodelist from 1991, when I started realitycheckBBS. The San Francisco bay area had to have over 100 BBSes listed.

I don't recall any FidoNet either in the 90s. Maybe I didn't look, maybe I wasn't that interested in messaging because I figured I didn't know anyone. I remember hearing about it, and maybe one board, the Melbourne PC Users Group or something like that might have had it.

it was called back then. Ironically, there were Opus boards and, IIRC, FIDO boards around the area but they didn't carry any network message areas.

Pretty much the same when I first got started in Huntsville, AL about that time, we had about a dozen or more boards in the area, and I can only remember like may 3 that were part of FIDO. Most of them were either Vnet or WWIVnet.

At some point in the early/mid-1990s, I became aware of FIDO but, like WWIVnet, I think I assumed incorrectly that you had to be running an Opus or FIDO BBS to carry it. Even after I added a few smaller FTNs, I didn't really interested in it until c2000 when the software-specific network my BBS was on, GT Power Net, started dying off due to the lack of software updates and an aging network population.
