It had a better keyboard and the case had more style.

The 800XL came with five or so different keyboards. Most of them were definitely not as good as the 800's, but one of them - the ALPS one -
is one of the best keyboards in the world (imo, of course) when nice
and new. Also I'd argue the sleek 80s/futuristic design of the XL was cooler ;).

I'm old-school at the core. I'd still like a pizza box desktop sytem
in beige/platinum. I don't miss my 21" Sony CRT, though - that thing
made my desk bow in at the middle!

Oh yeah! I had a 21" Sony CRT as well. Fortunately, I have (still)
an old Oak office desk as a computer table. So no bowing - but it
was straight up heavy to take to lan parties! Used to take it to
BF1942 setups. That was a blast of a fun time. All day long into
    the wee hours!

I had an old particle-board desk back then, now have a steel tanker desk with a serious patina going on. Bring on the CRTS!

We're talking CRTs? I have two Sony PVMs: a 14L5 and a 1943MD. I also still have my consumer KV-24FS100 that I bought new ~24 years ago, but it is in desperate need of a recap. I wish I could find someone local to do that job for me.

I am in the US, but I use RGB SCART and/or component on these monitors with older gaming consoles. Games look fantastic on them.

A few years back, I found a new-old-stock Compaq CRT which I use with my Windows 98 machine. This one is a black and silver and not beige, so not a perfect match for the PC its on, but the brand matches.
